Ballet du Capitole is the resident ballet company of the Opéra national du Capitole in Toulouse, France, and one of the most celebrated companies in the French regional dance landscape. The company's origins date to 1949, when Louis Orlandi initiated dedicated dance evenings at the Capitole Theatre, establishing a tradition of classical ballet that would grow in ambition and stature over the following decades.
Under Nanette Glushak (1994–2012) and subsequently Kader Belarbi (2012–2023), the company developed an internationally recognised repertoire rooted in the academic tradition of the Paris Opéra Ballet while embracing neoclassical and narrative works. Belarbi's tenure was particularly distinguished, producing acclaimed stagings that attracted attention from critics and choreographers across Europe.
Since 2023, Beate Vollack has led the company as Director of Dance, preserving its classical identity while bringing a fresh creative perspective to future programming. The Ballet du Capitole performs at the ornate Théâtre du Capitole in the heart of Toulouse, one of France's grandest opera houses, and regularly collaborates with international choreographers and guest artists to maintain its position at the forefront of French ballet.
